Hotel Blind Adds Oculus Rift, HTC Vive Support
Serellan LLC launched Hotel Blind, a simulation of a blind person in a hotel room, earlier this year. The videogame received a decidedly mixed reception upon launch, however the development team has continued work on the project, adding support for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift to the version available on Steam.
Taking control of the blind protagonist, the player is faced only with a black screen and a snippet of information. Each new room delivers five objectives that must be completed before the player can move on, instructed and guided via text and audio clues only. These cues allow the player to map out the room in their mind as they attempt to navigate without visual information. Each play of the videogame offers a randomly generated set of puzzles.
Developed using Unreal Engine 4, thanks to the latest build (Unreal Engine 4.13), Hotel Blind now supports virtual reality (VR) through the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The player benefits from head-related transfer function (HRTF) audio for precise audio cues, including radio transmissions and footsteps varying in quality depending on the surface underfoot.
